Lil’ Wayne and Kanye West Build Buzz for Unpopular Grammy’s

Lil’ Wayne will be headlining a group of rap stars, including Kanye West, to help build some buzz for the “barely breathing” Grammy’s:

Ratings were for the annual show decreased last year to its lowest level since 1992 as viewers opted for other ways to spend their time. Lil Wayne will join an eclectic group of musicians who will be featured in the campaign, called “Celebrate The Music That Makes Us. Other participants include R&B/pop vocalist Rihanna, Stevie Wonder, Lenny Kravitz and Radiohead lead singer Thom Yorke.

According to a Grammy spokeswoman, the artists were asked to give 10-20 songs that influenced or affected their life and career to the Recording Academy. Song lyrics and titles are featured in the print and television ads.

“This year’s ad campaign brings this idea to life by highlighting the songs that influence and inspire several artists whose music has made a lasting impact on music lovers worldwide — creating even greater anticipation for music’s biggest night,” Recording Academy chief marketing officer Evan Greene said in a statement.

Print ads featuring Lil Wayne show the rapper paying tribute to Jay-Z’s hit single “Can’t Knock the Hustle” as well as former G-Unit member Young Buck’s “Pocket Full of Paper.”

Although he is featured prominently in the campaign, Lil Wayne will not be the only rapper on board for the effort.

Spots for Kanye West and Coldplay are currently being developed as the print ads continue to expand in the days leading up to the Grammys.

Rihanna’s print ad will cite Destiny Child’s “Say My Name” while Wonder’s television ad incorporates his popular single “Superstitious” and lyrical references to Ray Charles and Stephanie Mills.

Despite a message in his ad saying “artist not guaranteed to perform,” Lil Wayne will likely perform at the Grammys.

The 51st annual Grammy Awards will air live at 8 p.m. February 8 on CBS.

Well, go ahead and do the damn thing, Lil’ Weezy. Kanye, you get a cool point as well. Who would have ever thought they would NEED rap to inject some life into such an affair?

pedophile wins lottery

Alec Ahsoak, pictured above, has been convicted twice for sexual abuse to a minor, and get this y’all, he just won the f*cking lottery:

An Alaska lottery held to raise money for a group that helps sexual abuse victims had a surprise winner: a convicted sex offender. Alec Ahsoak, who according to the state sex offender registry was convicted in 1993 and 2000 for sexual abuse of a minor, came forward Saturday with the winning ticket for the $500,000 Lucky Time Pull Tabs jackpot. Proceeds of the lottery help Standing Together Against Rape in Anchorage, a nonprofit group that offers support to sexual assault victims among other services. “It’s not how we had envisioned the story going,” Nancy Haag, the group’s executive director, told CNN Radio. Alaska has the highest per capita number of rape cases in the United States, according to FBI statistics. “With a ranking that high, it’s ironic that the person who wins is a convicted sex offender,” Haag added. Ahsoak’s past was first revealed by KTUU-TV in Anchorage on Sunday. His attorney, Lance Wells, did not immediately return a call Monday from CNN. Efforts to reach lottery organizer Abe Spicola, who owns Lucky Times Pull Tabs, were unsuccessful late Monday. But Spicola told the Anchorage Daily News that Ahsoak “was going to buy a house and said he was going to donate part of it to God, and, you know, charity.”

Why him? God works in mysterious ways. SMH

One Week ’til the Inauguration

The Presidential Couple, Barack & Michelle Obama grace the cover of Ebony’s February issue. Headz all over are getting ready to be a part of his historic inauguration, including Usher, Mary J Blige, and of course, Beyonce:

Beyonce’s wish of performing at Barack Obama’s inauguration has been granted — well sort of … The “I Am Sasha Fierce” singer will join several artists including Usher at an HBO hosted inaugural concert taking place Jan. 18.

‘We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial,’ will celebrate Barack Obama’s rise to the presidency and kick off a near four day schedule of Inaugural events that includes 10 official Inaugural Balls as well as an Inauguration Day eve youth concert at the Verizon Center. Nineteen artists from across several genres, including Mary J. Blige, Garth Brooks, Herbie Hancock, Shakira, Usher, and Sheryl Crowe are confirmed to appear.

The special, slated to air on HBO as well, will feature historical readings from Martin Luther King III, Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx and Queen Latifah. For those traveling to or living in the DMV (District Of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia), the concert is free and open to the public. Bruce Springsteen, John Mellancamp, Stevie Wonder, Josh Groban and Heather Headley round out the initial line up for the show.

Could you imagine such a line up if John “The Geezer” McCain had been elected. That sh*t would’ve looked like the f**kin’ Lawrence Welk Show. SMH.
